WHY POLYURETHANE ?
PU's are used because they combine unique engineering properties.
Although PU's may initially be more expensive than another material, a part manufactured from PU could last two, four or even ten times more than a part made from another material.
All PU's share high abrasion, toughness high impact tear resistance and high load bearing ability. Attempts to use rubber to provide resiliency proved unsuccessful due to abrasions and wear limitations. In addition to offering excellent resiliency and abrasion resistance, urethane materials met the engineering tolerance of scoring machine design and fabrication. Because of its resiliency and resistance to surface abrasion under repeated use, polyurethane has for the last 20 years been the preferred material.
The exceptional thermal insulation and structural properties of PU rigid foams offer particular advantages for domestic appliances, Home and other buildings.
The strength and wear resistance properties of PU flexible foam have result in their dominance of the upholstery and mattress markets.
The outstanding property of PU adhesives has result in widespread use for rigorous engineering applications, particularly in the automotive sector where high strength/weigh ration and reliability are important.
PU's can form tough hard chemical resistant coating which have a high degree of environment resistance to oxygen and ozone attack.
Polyurethane parts have proven their durability in rugged industrial environments through their corrosion and impact resistance. An important mechanism of failure in conventional scraper is caused by the impact of the belt splices on the scrapper. Observation of an underground mine conveyor belt cleaner constructed of polyurethane demonstrated no deterioration after 250,000 splices impacts, a significant improvement over conventional scrapers made from other rubber compounds.
PUs elastomers can be formulated to far outwear any other rubber or elastomer. Generally PU elastomer retains constant properties over a wider temperature range than other elastomers.Polyurethane material retained dimensional integrity under rigorous operating conditions.
The thermoplastic polyurethanes offer excellent tensile strength and elongation characteristics and are also known for their excellent abrasion resistance, flexibility at low temperature and low compression.
